Spicing Up Our Office!

It’s a known fact that I’m nuts. Certifiable, in fact. How I ever managed to snag Shana, I’ll never know. I get in these moods where I have to create, whether it be photographically, or ripping apart our office because I spent too much time reading about DIY projects on Pinterest. I saw this gorgeous old dresser someone had painted aqua and immediately knew I wanted one, and would design our entire office around it. When I told Shana about this desire, she gave me one of her blank staring half open mouth looks while I drabbled on about the necessity of it all. She agreed that it was a neat idea, but that we’d have to actually go out and find an affordable old dresser to redo, and we’d most certainly have to wait until this wedding season was over because it would be such a project. On a trip later that day back from the grocery store, I spotted a tag sale sign down the street from our house. I drove the length of the street looking for said tag sale and found nothing, they must have closed up shop early because of the heat, or perhaps they’d sold everything already. But on the loop back to our house, on the side of the road, sat a junk pile full of bright neon toddler toys that grabbed my attention. As I rounded the corner further and was about to put my attention back on the road it was like the clouds parted and shone down on this beaten up gorgeous old dresser. The best part? The giant FREE sign attached to it. I squealed to a stop (I was squealing, not the truck) and bounded out for fear someone was going to come snatch it up. I somehow managed to get it in the back of our truck on my own (I was not about to leave it to go get Shana) and raced home to show it off.

So that was it, Shana had no choice but to start the project with me. That night I created an “inspiration board” from images I’d found on the web, which I’m going to post here because I could totally be one of those design on a dime people (If anyone from HGTV reads this, call me!)

The very next day we did a Home Depot, Michaels, and Target trip to get all the necessary supplies. She set to work painting the office while I started a myriad of craft projects (cookie sheet magnetic boards, sewing drapes from shower curtains, printing and cutting up HUNDREDS OF NUMBERS to velcro to our white board (Gods, don’t ever ever do this. It took me the entire second day to do, and I have only finished six months worth… I still have another six months to finish!)). The following day she sanded and painted the dresser, as well as an old door we found on the side of the road last year but never knew what to do with. Well, that’s half true, we did use it once for this photoshoot:

But the end result took us only two days, and we are totally in love with it. I still need to sew a couple pillows and we’re going to order some billy balls for the vase, but everything else is DONE. The last two pictures were thrown in just for fun, as they’re total testaments to our very different personalities. Gee, I wonder which side of the desks belongs to which?
