A month ago we had a total fate moment happen, we had a last minute opening up of our schedule on a weekend we previously had booked, and it just so happened to be the same weekend my baby sister was having her baby shower. I knew I had to make it, we’ve never had anyone cancel on us before, it was totally fate. Shana agreed and urged me to go. We kept it a secret from my entire family, and I flew in the day before her shower. I was so nervous someone was going to blow the surprise, because I come from a seriously small town, but I called my mother the morning of the shower nonchalantly, to ask how their morning was going, if they were excited for the shower, that I wished I could be there, all that nonsense. She totally didn’t have a clue, so I knew I was gold. I arrived a few minutes after it started, and managed to capture shaky video footage of her reaction (the camera was at my waist and I just left it recording as I entered) the result was exactly what I hoped for, and I’m so glad I was able to make it.
That night we planned on shooting her maternity pictures, and luck would have it poured buckets the entire time. I was on a limited schedule and knew we might not have another chance, since Florida has been a wet mess for months, and so we shot them anyway. One of the best decisions I’ve ever made, because it was so fun and different and absolutely gorgeous. Johnny, Maddison’s partner, played assistant and hopped in for a few pics with his love. Quite by accident we ended up in the pool at the end of the session, just to get the sand and muck off of us, and ended up spending dusk playing in the pool with a nikon waterproof point and shoot.
The next day, the last day I was there, we took a few more photos in the noon day sun and spent the rest of the day with my mother, brother, and sister catching up and enjoying each other. I wish my time there with them had been longer, but I’m just so happy I was able to be there to share in that moment with my sister and family.
We just got word a few hours ago that they’re headed to the hospital and I can’t wait to hear the news of our little niece Liala Rae entering the world finally! Did I mention I told my mother last week I had a feeling she would be born this Thursday (TOMORROW.) We’ll see if I’m right or if she decides to take her sweet time! Either way, YAY!
