Let me just preface this by saying there is absolutely nothing like a wedding on top of a mountain. Between the wind and weather, it’s insane and gorgeous and highly unpredictable. When we arrived for Julia & Alex’s Mount Greylock Wedding it was sunny and breezy out, a bit chilly for June 20th, but nothing a light sweater couldn’t help. We started out as we always do, capturing Julia and Alex getting ready. By the time we stepped outside no less than 45 minutes later the weather had changed pretty dramatically. The sun was gone, and the breeze was replaced with full blown windy conditions, and storm clouds could be seen in the distance.

We shot their first look with the most incredible backdrop imaginable behind them. There’s absolutely nothing like being 3500 feet up with those kinds of views. After portraits were done we went inside to warm up before the ceremony (it was absolutely freezing at this point with the wind) and emerged from the lodge 15 minutes later to another incredible change in the weather. We were now smack dab in the middle of the clouds, literally. They managed to fit their ceremony in before the rain started, and just barely, but it was absolutely indescribable. Clouds were literally whipping through the whole time.

Inside the lodge was so cozy and warm. Julia and Alex braved the misty conditions for some more portraits after dinner as well as some sparkler shots (which were almost impossible to light in such damp conditions, but they managed!) and we finished up the night totally thrilled at what a cool adventure their wedding had been for us photographically.

The adventure of getting down the mountain in near zero visibility in pitch blackness was a whole other adventure in itself. Talk about nail biting! But we got out alive, and good thing, because these pictures are to die for! Enjoy!
