Okay, so being that this was our first ever Greek wedding (well, photographing one, Shana is Greek and grew up going to these) I had to reference one of our favorite movies of all time. Because there are two kinds of people in this world - Greeks, and everyone else who wish they were Greek. I’ve married into it, so I guess that makes me an honorary Greek. I can tell you absolutely that they know how to do weddings up right, from the ceremony, to the party, to the FOOD.
From the moment we arrived at Alex’s parents house her incredibly gracious parents were trying to feed us. This wasn’t new, when we shot their engagement session it was the same. If I’ve learned anything from my Greek wife it’s that the world revolves around (really good) food when you’re Greek. That and family, and really, why shouldn’t everyone’s lives revolve around these two things?
The ceremony took place at St. George Greek Orthodox Cathedral in Springfield, and these are easily some our favorite church wedding photos of all time. The cathedral was gorgeous, and the Greek ceremony was equally as so. Afterward we all ran into a bit of a snag when I-91 northbound was in bumper to bumper traffic following a traffic accident, and were it not for the fact that everyone at the wedding was stuck in the same traffic, Shana and I might have had a melt down. There is nothing more nerve-racking than being stuck in traffic on someone’s wedding day with portraits to take and the sun rapidly setting. Luckily, after 45 minutes or so we made it to Quonquont and managed to get some incredible portraits in. Never a dull moment!
The reception was as awesome as the rest of the day, complete with more incredible food and Greek dancing. We absolutely love Alex and Jon, and their families, and are so totally thrilled to share their wedding at Quonquont Farm with you. Stay tuned next year for the video, which should be just as awesome as these photographs!
