Cat + Matt’s Forest Park Engagement

Cat and Matt are the type of couple we love, they’re totally laid back and right on our level. The first time we met with these two at their consultation last spring we spent FIVE hours hanging out in our kitchen talking like old friends. We debated over dinner after their engagement shoot how long it had been since that meeting, as I swore it couldn’t have been earlier than fall because it seemed like it was just yesterday, but according to email records it was spring of last year and where the hell has the time gone? We met up with them at Forest Park, which was super exciting as we’ve never shot there. It’s a massive park, with so much going on all over the place, ponds and gardens and walking paths, it was gorgeous. The weather wasn’t, of course, as it was one of those temperamental New England chilly spring days. It was no matter, because these two are cute even in chilly weather. Am I right, or am I right?

Angie + Brian’s Times Square Engagement

Last (but definitely not least) from our NYC weekend is Angie and Brian! Angie happens to be one of Bonnie’s best friends, and also went to high school with both of us. She and Brian both met in the service and had a very intimate wedding and never really had any professional pictures taken of themselves. So when Angie heard Bonnie was having us come into the city for their engagement photos she contacted us about doing some nice photos of them as well. Brian ALSO happens to have gone to the same high school as us, something I didn’t know until we met. He was a senior when we were all freshmen. The world is seriously small, right? We all met up in the West Village and spent the afternoon enjoying the gorgeous weather and finding some crazy cute locations.

The pair then told us it might be easiest to stop by Brian’s office in Times Square to change and feed Brian’s hangry beast, and after a quick jaunt on the subway he lead us to said office, which just happens to be smack dab in the center of Times Square. No, I’m not talking about some building right in the center, I mean the actual center of Times Square. Have you ever seen that giant American flag lit up and policed by the NYPD? It just so happens to be a recruiting office, and Brian works there. It was awesome.I was honestly so stunned to walk into the office that I forgot to snap a detail shot, so that’s pulled from google. After a pit stop there, we snapped a few photos in that chaos and headed over to the NYAC to get the gorgeous skyline view of Central Park. It was nearing sunset and such an incredible sight of the city. We’re so glad we got to do this for these two, and really excited that they’ll have some nice photos to hang on the wall finally.

Bonnie + Hanny’s Top of the Rock Engagement

Second up from our NYC weekend is Bonnie and Hanny. Bonnie and I happen to have gone to high school together, though we both ran in separate circles (I was a theatre geek and she played sports.) Our stories are similar though, in that we both wanted out of our podunk town immediately. We connected on facebook and she asked us to come shoot their engagement photos in the city. It took tons of arm twisting, let me tell you. That was sarcasm, gentle readers. We’re always looking for an excuse to go into the city, and what better excuse than love?

We had such a fantastic evening playing tourist and shooting these two. We managed to fit in half of the city before calling it quits and heading to dinner in the East Village. It was such an awesome time getting to know these two, celebrating their engagement, and gossiping about all the people we went to high school with. So happy we got a chance to do this, and even happier that we’ll be shooting their rooftop wedding in the city next year!

Julie + Derek’s Central Park Engagement

Last weekend we got to venture down to NYC for a jam packed weekend of couple shoots. It was a crazy whirlwind, but so incredibly fun. We started off the first day with Julie and Derek, and all I can say about these two is goo. Now when I say goo, I’m not talking about the gross stuff that came out of Sigourney Weaver’s bathtub in Ghost Busters. I’m talking about the moment you see two gorgeous people in love in equally gorgeous pictures and you’re just like, goo. Follow me? We spent a couple of hours getting to know these two and enjoying the perfect spring afternoon in Central Park. For sunset we headed over to the Highline and there isn’t a more perfect place in the city at sunset (okay, so there are a few more, but the Highline is definitely one of them.) You just get such perfect sunlight and gorgeous views. We had a fantastic time with these two, and can’t wait for their Gilford Yacht Club wedding in August!

Becky + Tyler’s Quabbin Engagement

We have been so ridiculously lucky with the gorgeous weather (and couples!) we’ve gotten to work with lately. We met up with Becky and Tyler at Quabbin Reservoir last week and the day couldn’t have been more awesome. We were so happy to shoot actual people here finally, as we’d only ever gotten the opportunity to shoot the landscape when we first moved to Western Mass. We all took in the sunshine and natural beauty and watched a dog almost get arrested for trespassing. NO WORRIES, he was too cute so the guard just gave him a literal pat on the back, scolded his owner, and sent him on his way. We spent the rest of the session avoiding the same fate by abiding by all the rules even though every part of me wanted to drag Becky and Tyler down to the water and make them stick their toes in it. Sorry Bostonians, I know this is your major drinking water source, but it’s so pristine it’s just asking to have toes in it. I may or may not have hopped a fence and gone in up to my waist the last time I was there two years ago, when the guard had called it a night at sunset. Sorry, I’m not sorry. At least I didn’t pee in it.

Becky and Tyler are having a NEW YEARS EVE wedding this year and we totally can’t wait, such a cool time of year for a wedding! Literally.

Ben + Mark’s Hatfield Engagement

We love love shoots like this. Ben and Mark took a drive out to meet us, and wanted to get their engagement photos out of the way as well. So after a few beers and awesome conversation we got to lead them around to a few spots right in our neighborhood that we’ve been meaning to shoot at. They had us laughing the whole time, and it’s always such a joy when things are this laid back and comfortable right off the bat. Everything is in bloom and Mark, an avid gardener, gave us an awesome herbology lesson (listen, wordpress, I don’t care that herbology isn’t a real word, it is in my Harry Potter fantasy world and you better get used to it!) They’re getting married at an adorable spot in the Berkshires in September and we totally can’t wait!

Amanda + Christina’s Paint Powder Party Engagement

Say that title ten times fast! Shana and I have been waiting for this moment for over a year. We saw that popular pinterest paint powder engagement and begged people to let us do it to them. Then Amanda and Christina came along and were so worth the wait, there couldn’t have been a better couple for this shoot. Amanda is an artist and Christina was totally on board. Even though it was one of those ridiculous New England days where you shake your fist at mother nature for being so cruel, these two sucked up the freezing 40 degree weather in T SHIRTS just for the chance to throw some paint powder at each other. We made them do some mushy stuff first, just for Mom, and then giddily we got in place for the paint party to begin. We can’t get over the amount of fun this was. This is our JOB, we get to do this FOR A LIVING. How lucky are we?

Lauren + Dean’s Retro Downtown Engagement

It never ceases to make us unbelievably happy when our clients become our friends. Lauren and Dean are one such example, and we had more fun than should be allowed with these two in downtown Northampton. They both looked so snazzy in their retro garb, and downtown was the perfect setting. I could go on and on about how absolutely easy and awesome these two were, we literally didn’t pose a single one of these, but it’s fairly obvious with how natural they look. They’re just this awesome together. We spent all of ten minutes walking around some alleyways before we all agreed it was well past time for some fancy drinks, and there’s no better place in Northampton to get some drinks than The Tunnel Bar. By the time we finished a few incredibly stiff drinks it was nearly sunset, so we spent a few minutes up on the railroad tracks before deciding we all needed some grub. Easily one of the best engagement shoots we’ve done, and not just because they got us drunk. God, we love our jobs (and our new friends!)

Nikki + Sam’s Look Park Engagement

Today is surreal. A good chunk of our friends and clients are holed up in their houses while this teenager runs amuck in Boston. Nikki and Sam are among them, and the whole time we sat here editing these photos we just hoped that they and everyone they know are safely inside watching all of this unfold on TV. But this post is not about that nonsense, and we don’t want to sensationalize it anymore than it already has been.

Last Saturday was gloomy, but these two brightened it up immediately, they’re just so adorably goofy together. We had a blast parading them around the park and getting to know the two better. This is why we include engagement sessions, it’s really a completely selfish marketing ploy, we want to get you used to being in front of the camera and we love the time we get to spend with our clients one on one. How else would we find out about Nikki’s love for cats, and her need for superimposed ones in photographs? They even have one in their Save The Date’s! Sam is an IT genius and was giving us all sorts of pointers on SEO for our blog. Cats and SEO, these two totally speak my language. We can’t wait until the wedding goodness!

Happy One Year Anniversary!

It blows my mind that a year ago we were celebrating our love with all of the people we love the most on this planet. At this time Shana was busy cooking with some of her best friends while my mother and I were deciding on my hairstyle for the day. There were no nerves, we waited our whole lives for that moment and every bit of it was perfect. At 6:30pm we turned the corner on to Banyan Street to 130 amazing souls clapping and cheering and I don’t think either of us will ever forget the feeling of that moment. That night we danced until early morning hours, took ridiculously inappropriate photobooth pictures with wedding crashers, and relived the whole thing with each other while we opened cards and gifts at 4am and cried. It’s easy to say that it was the best day of our lives. Relive it with us here.

I figured it might be time to finish up our honeymoon video, finally, and so after months of procrastination here you go! There really couldn’t be a better day to post it, and even though it’s quite amateur with our newly acquired D600′s, we still love it.
